Enid Bald is the Conservative candidate for the Linton ward of Bartlow, Hildersham and Linton in the SCDC election on 5th May.

She was born into a Durham farming family and has worked in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical and  clinical research in the UK, Europe and overseas.

Life in hospitals and industry, including self-employment, has given her practical knowledge of business.

She is married to John, an educational consultant specialising in literacy, and is as busy as ever with family, garden, parish and charity work..

"My work," says Enid, "as a Parish Councillor in Linton for almost 20 years, with five years as Chairman, has included:

• Improving flood defences and floodplain restoration.
• Promoting sound, sustainable and affordable development and housing.
• Promoting and supporting local shops and businesses.
• Opposing, modifying and blocking poor planning applications.
• Activities and Care for Elders (ACE).
• Campaigning against the negative effects of the A1307 on our health and well-being.
• Helping to defeat the proposed wind farm.
• Improving public spaces and the environment, including the Heritage Trail, Village Green, Recreation Ground, Community Orchard and Market Square.
• Improving the atmosphere and dignity of the village cemetery.

Taking a stand
"Without the protection of a Local Plan, villages are vulnerable to speculative planning applications that do not meet our urgent need for good quality, smaller, affordable housing," says Enid.

"I will continue to oppose unsustainable development, either on the fringes of villages or imposed from towns that have neglected their own infrastructure.

"The A1307 cannot safely take more traffic – our villages should not bear the pain of other people’s incompetent planning.

"I will keep up my fight to protect us from flooding and pollution – noise, traffic and excess lighting all affect health."
