The great concern with the proposed parliamentary boundary changes is we are to lose Melbourn and all the villages south of Melbourn, including Bassingbourn, to North Hertfordshire – which is quite absurd as they have always been part of South Cambridgeshire. See our news item on the proposed changes.
In 2018, the South Cambridgeshire District Council wards are also all changing. Foxton is to be linked to Duxford for which we have had no connection in the past – we have been linked to Fowlmere were we have had long connection as part of the '4 Churches Benefice' of Fowlmere, Foxton Shepreth and Thriplow. There is more on the SCDC changes in our recent news item.
For the County Council we will not be with Melbourn anymore - a fact now set in stone as the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, which rules on these matters, finalised the new boundaries several weeks ago. The entire Coounty Council is up for election on 4th May 2017, based on the new boundaries.
With almost 250 active CPF groups across the country and strong professional support from CCHQ**, the CPF has a vital role at the heart of the Conservative Party – with a direct line to the minister for government policy, its members have a real say in the direction our Party is taking.
CPF members played an important role during the 2015 general election, providing a number of contributions towards the manifesto we were successfully elected on; the work of its members in our target seats made a real difference to the outcome.
As we implement our Conservative manifesto and start formulating our vision for 2020, it is as important as ever we demonstrate how only the Conservatives will make the difficult decisions needed to secure a better and brighter future for Britain.
Mark Howard is the Chairman of this group, which exists to discuss an issue put forward by Conservative Central Office.
Through the CPF, the Party is kept informed of members’ opinions when deciding policy (unlike the Labour Party which appears only to take notice of its union paymasters).
The more members attending, the more valid your arguments and views – so please do come and listen to the arguments and air your views. All SCCA members are automatically eligible to join the discussion.
If you are not currently on the CPF mailing list, please e-mail denise_scca@btconnect.com ask for your name to be added.
