2.  A strong NHS needs a strong economy

This means:

  • The Conservatives are committed to the NHS – and increasing spending on the NHS.
  • More spending on the NHS can only happen on the back of a strong economy – and an NHS willing to move forward.
  • The Conservatives have empowered the NHS to determine its own way forward.
  • Under the leadership of its new chief executive, Simon Stevens, the healthcare community has reached an amazing degree of consensus on the way to go.
  • Its own plan – the Five Year Forward View – sets out a vision for transforming the way healthcare is delivered, breaking down barriers between services so patients receive more joined-up care.
