"As I am sure most of you will be aware, I have recently been appointed as the new Leader of the House of Commons and Lord Privy Seal," says Andrew Lansley CBE MP, who took up his new role on 4 September.
Following his appointment as part of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet ‘reshuffle’, he was sworn in by Her Majesty at Balmoral earlier this week and has spent the days which followed settling into his new position at the heart of Parliament.
"I leave my former role as Secretary of State for Health with a great sense of pride," he says. "It has been an immense privilege to serve in the role over a period when we were able to achieve such a major and lasting set of reforms for the National Health Service.
"I always knew that my job was to push through reform, and I have every confidence that these changes will go ahead as intended. My passion to support the NHS, and to see it prosper in the future, is undiminished. I know that my good friend Jeremy Hunt will continue with this objective in mind.
"I am very much looking forward to my new role and all that it brings with it. Most significantly, the opportunity to be at the forefront of Government and to contribute to policy across the board, including taking through our plans to promote growth in the economy, is one I greet with great enthusiasm.
"To be named Leader of the House is a great honour by any measure. After all, there is worse company to be included amongst than a list of former Leaders which includes such greats as Churchill, Disraeli and Pitt – both the Elder and Younger!
"Finally, I would like to thank all of the Members, Councillors and constituents who have written to me since the announcement. It is truly humbling to have read your kind words, and I am overwhelmed by your ongoing encouragement and support."
