The Government today announced it would deliver additional early measures as part of its commitment to improve the A14.
In order to reduce congestion on the A14, the Government has pledged £7.7 million to widen the A14 to three lanes between junctions 31 and 32 and install three sign gantries across the width of the carriageway.
Andrew Lansley says: “I am pleased that the Government is working hard to deliver real solutions to the A14. This latest announcement, which further reinforces this Government’s firm commitment to improving the A14, complements the much broader scheme to improve the road.”
“The widening of the A14 between junctions 31 and 32 will represent welcome early improvements to reduce congestion and improve safety on one of the busiest stretches of the A14.”
This new funding will deliver important early improvements consistent with the major A14 improvement project announced by the Transport Secretary in July 2012.
Improvement works will take place in 2014, with the project supporting Phase 1 of the Northstowe development, which will create 582 new jobs and 1,480 new homes by 2020.
