RISE AND SHINE
Freezing conditions, fog – nothing - will stop us fighting for better policy for our residents. We all know how Lib Dem policies put residents at a disadvantage and we are campaigning to turn the tide in South Cambridgeshire. We want to see the return of sensible policies which supports residents and stops the Lib Dem ‘greenwash’ at South Cambs District Council.
MANY HANDS
We teamed up with the Conservative Women’s Organisation (CWO) and were joined by National Chairman Fleur Butler, Cambs PCC Darryl Preston and Anthony Browne MP, who all share our passion for fair and constructive local politics. Credit to Cllr Ruth Betson, Chairman of CWO Eastern, who took on the lion's share of logistics!
We kicked off in Gamlingay, the ward I'm standing in and where I chair the Parish Council. The Gamlingay seat is currently occupied by incumbent Lib Dem and it’s clear that people in Gamlingay are ready for change. We refuelled down the road at the Wood Grill in Croydon before joining our Group Leader, Cllr Heather Williams in her ward, the Mordens.
Heather said "It was great to see such a fantastic turnout of activists from across the country on Saturday. Thanks must go to CWO for organising the day. It’s only with the support of other that together we can win in May. The CWO gives support to women, like myself, to help break through in local politics. I look forward to joining them on the campaign trail and hope to meet more activists throughout this campaign".
RESIDENTS SUPPORT US
On the doorstep, residents were very concerned to hear of the Lib Dem plan to build 49,000 new flats and houses. Everyone highlighted their worry over the inevitable and unwanted extra pressure this would bring to the whole district. Furthermore, residents shared our significant concerns about the new proposals for a congestion charge in and out of Cambridge, which the Greater Cambridge Partnership (Dominated by Lib Dem and Labour representatives) have proposed. It seems obvious that this new tax would bring fresh discrimination to residents and particularly hurt the people least able afford to pay more tax.
ARE YOU WITH US?
We are fighting hard to stop harmful Lib Dem policy and we will be campaigning all the way to the ballot box on Thursday 5th May 2022. If you share our passion and would like to join our campaign, please get in touch - we’d love to hear from you!
