Clayton Hudson for the Conservatives held Bourn in the by-election yesterday for the South Cambridgeshire District Council seat. He had a majority of 529 – the Lib-Dem candidate only just secured second place, beating the Labour candidate by eight votes. The election was caused by the resignation of David Morgan, Conservative, who now works abroad.
"Many thanks to everyone who supported my campaign" said Clayton, who is also Chairman of Cambourne Parish Council. "I am very proud this evening, the efforts of the team from leafleting, canvassing though to messages of support is much appreciated over the past six weeks.
"Now the real work starts and we have to build on the lessons learned today for the SCDC elections May. Positive campaigns highlighting achievements and a 'doer' approach work."
Clayton's win means that the Conservatives have regained an overall majority on the Council.
The Cambridge News reported Clayton's win on 19 February.
