Gifts from Council staff will be lighting up Fulbourn Hospital patients this Christmas
Almost 50 gifts have been presented to the Friends of Fulbourn Hospital today following an appeal to staff at South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Participating staff bought an extra gift when Christmas shopping to donate to Fulbourn Hospital, which treats people with Dementia and other psychiatric conditions that makes it difficult for them to be nursed on open wards.
The Friends of Fulbourn Hospital – a group of volunteers who support the care, welfare and rehabilitation of sufferers of mental illness - personally deliver the gifts to the patients, most of whom will have no visitors over the festive period, so that they are able to open a present at Christmas time.
Cllr Tony Orgee, Chairman at South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “I would like to thank all the Council staff who donated this year, I have been overwhelmed with their generosity and enthusiasm for the appeal. These gifts really do make a big difference for the patients, most of whom have no visitors over the festive period, and who would otherwise have no gift to open at Christmas.”
David Livesey, Chair of the Friends of Fulbourn Hospital, said: “We wish to thank South Cambridgeshire District Council for supporting our appeal once again this year and the staff and councillors for donating so generously. Some of our patients have nothing, so these gifts can be all that is needed to put a smile on their face and to bring comfort and cheer at this special time of year.”
Councillors and staff at South Cambridgeshire District Council have supported the Friends of Fulbourn Hospital for over five years.
