“There’s never any shortage of social events in the South Cambridgeshire constituency,” says Denise Smith, who co-ordinates our diary from the office in Hardwick. “Most events are organised by individual Association branches and the ever-active Women’s Committee – we owe everyone involved a big debt of thanks for all the hard work they put in.
"Last Saturday [11 May] we held a BBQ at the Hardwick office to celebrate the recent County Council elections where we won three new seats." Click on this link for the story and photos.
On 7th, 15th and 23rd June, you can join Andrew Lansley MP for supper in Great Shelford (7th), early evening Strawberries and Pimms in a lovely garden in Foxton (15th) and Afternoon Tea in a very special garden in Orwell at 3.30 pm on 23 June.
Also in June is a Midsummer's Day Drinks Party in Harston, 7.00 pm, 21st.
In July there's the lunchtime Swavesey Branch BBQ and evening Patrons' Club Summer Drinks Party on 5th, the 250 Club Annal Draw on 29th and the 'Wonderful' Bar Hill BBQ on July 21.
“There’s lot of a variety in the events,” says Denise, “from the coffee mornings celebrating St Valentine’s day earlier this year to special Christmas parties in December – and not forgetting the inter-constituency pub-style quiz in Bottisham.
“While the prime purpose of each event is to raise money for the Association, the real point of going, apart from hopefully winning something in the inevitable raffle, is meet fellow Conservatives and have an enjoyable time,” says Denise.
Andrew and Sally Lansley go to as many events as their busy schedule allows, as do our MEPs Robert Sturdy, Vicky Ford and David Campbell Bannerman.
Paid up Association members are regularly mailed with reminders and flyers of all the social events – which, of course, are also listed on this website.
Our pictures show a selection of events – with Denise Smith in the top photo talking with Bunty Waters and James Hockney at the Bar Hill BBQ. In order below are events at Babraham, Bar Hill, Comberton, Shepreth, Whittlesford and Bourne.
