Heidi Allen MP had the honour of switching on the Christmas lights outside Great Shelford's Memorial Hall on Friday evening.
The event, organised by District Councillor Charlie Nightingale, began with three beautifully sung carols by the local choir, which nicely prepared the large crowd for a short Christmassy message from Heidi: "I need to check three things before I can turn these lights on and officially start the countdown to Christmas...
"Kids – have you written your Christmas lists for Santa Claus?
"Mums – have you been buying those tins of sweets for £5 from the supermarket – not because you need them, but just because they're there and they're a bargain?
"Dads – have you picked out a Christmas jumper yet?
"OK... I'm going to need everyone's help to countdown... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.........." as she plunged a special switch and the lights on the Christmas trees along Woollards Lane flickered into life amidst much cheering.
Then, with her husband Phil, she went into the Memorial Hall for a mince pie and a tour of the craft displays.
