Although somewhat overwhelmed by the result, and after a very late night (the count followed the election after the polls closed at 10 pm), Lynda said:
"First, I would like to dedicate my win to the memory of John Reynolds whose untimely death last November necessitated this by-election. John was an outstanding Councillor who served Bar Hill quite brilliantly for almost 30 years – his will be hard shoes to fill, but you can be sure I will do my utmost to deliver for you.
"Second, thank you to everyone who supported me; I am humbled by the confidence shown in me. To every resident – whether you voted for me or not: you can be sure I will be getting down to work from this morning to continue supporting those things you have told me are important to you.
"During the election period I had the opportunity to meet a great many of you – but the size of the division, covering, as it does, the villages of Bar Hill, Boxworth, Dry Drayton, Girton and Lolworth, is such there are many more of you with whom I have not had personal contact.
"If you would like to meet me to discuss a particular issue, or just to talk generally about the things happening in your village, please do not hesitate to contact me. My number is 07889 131 022 or you can e-mail me Lynda.Harford@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
"I am now your representative at the County Council – and I will work closely with the three Conservative and one Independent councillors who represent you at the District Council to achieve the best outcomes for you all over the coming years."
