The Conservatives won three more seats at Thursday's local elections for South Cambridgeshire District Council – they now have 38 overall, twice as many as all the other parties put together:
Conservative – 38
Liberal Democrats – 11
Independent (group) – 6 Independent (non-group) – 1
Labour – 1
The 'new' seats were in Fulbourn (won by Graham Cone from an Independent), Hardwick (Grenville Chamberlain from the Lib Dems) and Histon & Impington (Chris Cross, also from the Lib-Dems). Because of Conservative councillor retirements, SCDC also has new Conservative replacements: Richard Turner taking over from Richard Barrett (Balsham) and Des O'Brien from Alison Elcox (Bourn).
Also successfully re-elected were Roger Hall (Bar Hill), Francis Burkitt (Barton), Tim Scott (Comberton), Tim Wotherspoon (Cottenham), Mick Martin (Duxford), Nick Wright (Papworth & Elsworth), David Bard (Sawston), Caroline Hunt (Teversham), Tony Orgee (The Abingtons), David Whiteman-Downes (The Shelfords & Stapleton) and Brian Burling (Willingham & Over).
