A stronger, fairer United Kingdom
As the Conservative Party Conference continues here in Birmingham, we’ve been setting out what we’re doing to offer the British people opportunity for the future.
Today we announced:
- After Britain has left the EU we will put in place an immigration system based on people’s skills – not where they come from – helping us to reduce immigration to sustainable levels as we take back control of our borders.
- We set out new plans to crack down on serious violence:
- We launched a landmark review of drug misuse, helping agencies to work together and creating a £200 million new Youth Endowment Fund to target crime hotspots.
- The Prime Minister, Theresa May, announced we’re changing the law to allow opposite-sex couples in England and Wales to enter into a civil partnership – making sure all couples, be they same-sex or opposite-sex, are given the same choices in life.
- And the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, spoke of his pride at the freedom, security, opportunity and prosperity this country has offered his family.
- He also set out plans to make sure people who come to live in Britain can play a full part in our integrated national life.
