Ruth Betson, one of our District Councillors for Cambourne, has just made her TV debut.

A reporter from local TV station That's Cam TV spotted a piece by Ruth in the Cambourne Crier criticising Highways England over its intention to keep the A428 as single lane at the Girton interchange.

And although it was Ruth's first TV interview, she handled it like a pro – indeed better than many experienced pundits manage.

Plans to leave A428 at Girton single carriageway branded 'idiocy' by councillor

District Councillor Ruth Betson has told Cambourne Crier she is shocked that the Highways England (HE) A14 project team intend on keeping the A428 as single lane at the Girton interchange permanently.

Initially reduced from two lanes to one to allow for working space during the construction of the new bridge over the A428 at the junction with the A14, HE now say traffic modelling shows the capacity of the A428 can be met by a single carriageway.

“Obviously this is ridiculous," said Ruth.  "I brought it to the attention of the HE A428 project team and they will look into it.  I also raised it at the Scrutiny & Overview Committee meeting at SCDC on 21st June.

"The dualling of the A428 from Caxton Gibbet to the Black Cat roundabout will create more traffic, as will plans to create an expressway corridor between Oxford and Cambridge.  It is inconceivable to have the A428 as single lane at Girton and we will be doing everything we can to stop this idiocy!”
