New Cabinet plans announced by Leader
Two new faces are to be brought into South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Cabinet if Cllr Ray Manning is re-elected as leader of the Council at the annual general meeting on 24 May.
Cllr Manning’s proposed Cabinet will see changes to responsibilities to help localism by further improving links with parish councils – and a Cabinet Member will be solely dedicated to Northstowe to make sure plans for the proposed new town are right for new and existing communities.
New councillors being brought into Cabinet are Cllr Pippa Corney, who will stand down from chairing the Council’s planning committee to take on responsibility for planning policy and localism, and Cllr James Hockney, currently chair of the Council’s scrutiny committee, who is to be charged with responsibility for corporate and customer services.
Subject to Cllr Manning being re-elected as Leader of the Council, the new eight-strong Cabinet line-up, who are all Conservatives, taking up their roles on 24 May are:
Cllr Ray Manning (Leader)
Cllr Simon Edwards (Deputy Leader, finance and staffing)
Cllr Sue Ellington (Environmental services)
Cllr Mark Howell (Housing)
Cllr Tim Wotherspoon (Northstowe)
Cllr Pippa Corney (Planning policy and localism)
Cllr Nick Wright (Planning and economic development)
Cllr James Hockney (Corporate and customer services)
Cllr Tom Bygott will continue to be a councillor for Girton, but having recently completed an MBA he has stated he would like to dedicate more time on his career outside of the Council.
Cllr Ray Manning, said: “This new top team has the right balance of experience, energy and fresh ideas to drive forward our economy and make sure this area remains one of the best places to live and work in the country. I would like to pay tribute to all district councillors, no matter what their political affiliations, who work hard all year round for residents. However, I would like to particularly thank all the councillors who have been part of my Cabinet over the last four years as every one of them has done a terrific job.
“We are very realistic that there are tough decisions ahead as budgets are being squeezed more than ever before. But, at the same time, we are also ready for the challenge as we have an excellent track record of delivering on our promises. If I am re-elected as leader later this month, parish councils, businesses and residents in South Cambridgeshire can all be very sure that my Cabinet will continue to listen to your views and work tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcomes.”
