Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District Councils have advertised today for a shared post of Director of Planning and Economic Development – a role which will help shape one of the most successful economies in the country and oversee the delivery of thousands of new jobs and high quality new communities.

Council bosses have said the new role will build on the existing successful partnership between the two authorities – which will also see more services shared and one Local Plan to develop Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire in the future.

"The role replaces two existing vacancies in planning and economic development at both councils and should remove duplication and fill the gaps, as well as helping to raise the profile of the area with the government and potential investors.

Councillor Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to be at the heart of one of the most important economies in the country.

"Through our Local Plans, we will see thousands of new homes delivered in the area over the next 15 years – but this role goes far beyond bricks and mortar.  We need a leader who will build on our successes and shape the area to make sure it continues to be one of the best places to live and work in the country.”
