Councillor Mervyn Loynes is the Conservative candidate for Bourn, Cambourne, Caxton, Croxton and Eltisley in the SCDC election on 5th May.
Mervyn was first elected in 2008. He has also been on Eltisley Parish Council for six years.
He writes: I am very busy on your behalf – attending parish meetings in ‘my’ five villages throughout the years, handling calls from residents and representing you at SCDC Council meetings. I’m also on the Licencing Committee.
I am currently working with McDonalds to provide sponsorship for junior and youth football teams – the first full team kit for CFC Spartans in Cambourne is on order right now.
Local action by Mervyn Loynes on your behalf
"I support all the planning applications for Cambourne, which is a thriving large village," says Mervyn.
"The Parish Council has done a fantastic job over the years in getting the Sports Centre built and running the Hub. Amongst many other things, it’s currently working hard to get a swimming pool.
"Working together, we’ve had yellow lines put in front of the schools and at some problem junctions.
"I hope we can get the much needed bus link soon.
"I am opposing the Bourn Airfield Development of 3,500 houses – and I opposed the use of Bourn Airfield for a storage and distribution centre for 40 foot containers for Wincanton Transport, because of all the traffic movements and lorries coming and going at all hours, using local roads etc.
"We must make sure heavy trucks do not travel through Bourn village or other local villages.”
Taking a stand
"I am on the Eltisley Parish Council and support the planning applications in the village – our villages need to allow some extra houses, especially affordable homes to buy or for rental," says Mervyn.
"We have a need for the young couples born in our villages in South Cambridgeshire to be able to stay in the village if the want to.
"Among the many things I’ve made happen are the installation of wheelchair ramps, security gates to protect a row of sheltered houses, repairs to garage roofs and, in all five villages, street lights fixed and pot holes filled."
