Councillor Simon Edwards is the Conservative candidate for Cottenham, Oakington, Rampton and Westwick in the SCDC election on 5th May.

Simon was brought up in Cottenham and now living in Oakington, he has spent most of his 55 years living and working in the community he represents.

He married Claire in 1986 at All Saints’ Church, Cottenham – she is Chairman of the local Riding for the Disabled Association.

They have two children, Katie and Charlotte, who both attended local schools.

Simon is Deputy Leader of SCDC and the Finance and Staffing Portfolio Holder and a member of Oakington and Westwick Parish Council.

"Graffiti can quickly become a blight on our community if it’s not dealt with straight away," says Simon.
 
"I find if it’s nipped in the bud, it really does reduce the amount of re-offending – and keeps our villages looking in tip top condition.  It only takes an hour or so to fix – so I just get on and fix it.

"Histon Road is a top priority for speed reduction measures.  We must continue to put pressure on the Highways Authority to do something to slow drivers down and make this stretch of road safer for us all.

"I will always fight for road safety in our villages to keep pedestrians and cyclists as safe as is humanly possible.

"Community Orchards really do foster a community spirit – it’s a good way of meeting new people and sharing ideas for local public spaces.

"I’m currently exploring the concept of ‘Community Bee Hives’, which could be put in the orchards, and looked after by local bee keepers. ”

Taking a stand
"Unauthorised development, wherever it occurs, cannot go unchallenged," says Simon.

"Sometimes it can take years to see planning breaches put right, but I am always determined to see the job through and make sure justice is done, no matter how long it takes or how difficult the process.

"Any development in our villages should have village support before it is agreed.

"We are the ones who have to live with increases in speeding traffic and queues at the doctor’s surgeries – so it is essential our views must be given proper consideration."
