The 2013 County Council elections weren't all doom and gloom for the Conservatives, for in South Cambridgeshire we gained four seats – Bourn (from UKIP) and Duxford, Hardwick and Lindon from the Lib Dems.
And even with the loss of Fulbourn, within the South Cambridgeshire area of the County Council, there are two more Conservatives than in 2009 (10 now, 8 in 2009, but 11 in 2005).
This is how the voting went:
Bar Hill John Reynolds (C) retained his seat (with his usual large majority).
Bassingbourn Adrian Dent (C) retained the seat held for many years by
Linda Oliver (C) with a healthy majority.
Bourn Mervyn Loynes (C) won the seat from UKIP.
Duxford Peter Topping (C) won the seat from the Lib Dems.
Fulbourn Nick Clarke (C) lost the seat to the Lib Dems by a big margin. He
had been the leader of the Conservative Group.
Gamlingay Alison Elcox (C) failed to make headway against the Lib Dems.
Hardwick Stephen Frost (C) won the seat from the Lib Dems. Stephen is the
Association's Agent.
Cottenham, Histon and Impington Lynda Hertford and Tim Wotherspoon
(both Cs) failed in their joint attempt.
Linton Roger Hicford (C) took the seat from the Lib Dems – by one vote (as he
did in the Disctict Council election last year).
Melbourn Duncan Bullivant (C) failed to make headway against the Lib Dems.
Papworth and Swavesey Mandy Smith (C) retained her seat (with her usual
large majority).
Sawston Gail Kenny (C) and Tony Orgee (C) both retained their seats for the
Conservatives.
Waterbeach James Hockney (C) failed to make headway against the Lib Dems.
Willingham Ray Manning (C) retained the seat for the Conservatives.
The full results are on the County Council website.
Less good news was the loss, in an SCDC by-election, of Owell and Barrington to the Lib Dems. In two other by-elections, we retained the Balsham ward by failed to make ground in Melbourne. Details on the SCDC website.
