Today we, the Conservative group at South Cambs, are supporting a motion, proposed by Cllr Richard Williams, that promotes the civil enforcement of parking in South Cambs. While the police do what they can, the lack of enforcement results in little deterrence and makes life a misery for many residents. South Cambs is now one of just 13 of 326 Local authority areas in England that do not have civil parking enforcement (CPE). With government consulting on extending CPE powers to include parking that obstructs the pavement, now seems the right time to restart the conversation. We could have a real opportunity here to make residents lives better and improve our District. So we will be championing CPE today, and standing up for South Cambs residents.
Standing in the Name of Cllr Richard Williams:
South Cambridgeshire District Council recognizes that illegal parking is a serious problem for many communities in our district. This council commits to tackling this problem and will explore the options available to us, as an authority, to assume the responsibility of civil parking enforcement, in common with over 9 in 10 local authority areas in England.
