Walk on water at Milton Country Park
Paddle boarding is making a return to Milton Country Park this summer and residents are being invited to come and learn how to 'walk on water'.
Paddle boarding is a fun activity for all the family which, experts say feels like walking on water because it works on the still water of a lake and involves standing on a flamboyant board and paddling along using oars.
After only a few minutes instruction on how to balance and paddle, beginners will be gliding along the water enjoying enhanced access to the beauty of the lake whilst also getting some healthy exercise.
Thirty minute sessions, led by an instructor, will run throughout the summer with the first one taking place on Saturday 12 May. Each session will cost just £5 per person and includes the hire of a board and buoyancy aid.
Spaces are limited so book early by contacting Helen Stepney on 01954 713362 or helen.stepney@scambs.gov.uk
Helen Stepney, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Sports Project Coordinator, said: "Enjoying and exploring the Country Park from the peace and tranquillity of the lake on a paddle board is a great experience and you can really feel at one with nature. Coupled with the many physical benefits and challenges of paddle boarding, it offers a great opportunity to get out and get active.
“The Council has been very pleased to be able to support the paddle boarding sessions, particularly as we gear up for the London 2012 Games. Participation is one of the key legacy aims of the Olympics and with so many sporting events going on across the district there has been no better time to get people inspired and involved in sport.”
Paddle boarding sessions will run at 30 minute intervals between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm on the following Saturdays:
12 May
16 June
11 August
18 August
8 September
