Philip Hammond, the Secretary of State for transport, wrote to Councillor Jill Tuck, Leader of Conservative controlled Cambridgeshire County Council, on 24 March to say that the Government is providing £2,681,869 to the Council for additional road maintenance. This is on top of the £1m provided last year.
It is part of the £200m of extra funding for local highway authorities in England that the DfT is providing – a significant extra investment in road maintenance at a rime of severe fiscal restraint and double the amount it was originally intending to allocate this financial year.
The £2.7 being allocated to Cambridgeshire is based on a funding formula that takes into account road length and condition.
It will be paid by 28 March.
