In her first Christmas message, and the first the council has filmed, Cllr Sue Ellington, chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council, reflects on key council events of 2015.
It features photos and video from key points of the council's year, including veterans attending a Victory Over Japan 70th anniversary ceremony at South Cambridgeshire Hall with a parade and plaque unveiling as well as the start of work on twenty new council homes in Swavesey, a milestone in building affordable homes for local people.
Talking about the council's annual Community Awards, Cllr Ellington comments: "You can nominate people to be celebrated for what they do in your community. Go to www.scambs.gov.uk/community-awards and get somebody nominated from your village." The deadline for nominations is 15 January.
Parklife, the annual free family fun day is also mentioned – it's the council's biggest community event of the year; the next one is on Sunday 17 July 2016 at Milton Country Park.
Referring to her Chairman's Charity, Dogs for Good, Cllr Ellington says: "These dogs really do help people to remain independent in their own homes and we have managed to raise £1,000 so far to buy a puppy who's going to be trained to help a disabled person. We have a target of £5,000 in two years and we're well on our way."
Signing off, Cllr Ellington says: "Happy Christmas to all our residents. South Cambs works for you – please keep us informed of what you want us to do and where we can help you to live a better quality of life."
