Alan Shipp is the Conservative candidate for Landbeach, Waterbeach and Chittering in the SCDC election on 5th May.
Alan was born in Waterbeach and has lived his whole life here – he’s more commonly known as ‘Mr Hyacinth’ due to his internationally renowned annual display of the world’s largest collection of hyacinths.
He brings a strong understanding of the land and drainage through being involved in farming all his life.
A Parish Councillor for over 40 years, he has worked very hard for all sections of our community.
In 2010 he created 53 new allotments on his land to meet an ever increasing local demand.
What I will do as your District Councillor
I will work hard all year round on the local issues which matter to you, including:
- Transport Waterbeach frequently serves as the overflow to the station car park. I will press for increased parking for rail passengers.
- The A 10 is approaching gridlock at times creating ‘rat running’ through both of our parishes. We must have a new park and ride site to the north of Waterbeach and the A14/Milton interchange upgraded.
- Sewage Many residents have suffered the awful situation of sewage water going into their homes on Bannold Road. I support the multi-agency process to resolve this which Councillor Hockney started.
- The proposed new town should only happen when there are very rigid controls against any serious effect on our villages, including transport and sewage – which must be addressed in the planning processes attached to the development.
Taking a stand
"The flooding and sewage problem in Bannold Road (see above) is a very serious issue," says Alan.
"Jane Shipp and her mother-in-law Carol Shipp (we’re distantly related) are pictured with me on the corner of Bannold Road and Bannold Drove.
"They live close by and, along with their neighbours, regularly suffer from sewage flooding their gardens – even their homes.
"Can you imagine waking up after a heavy rainfall and finding yourself surrounded by a lake of foul water?
"Councillor James Hockney started the process of resolving this serious problem – if elected on 5th May, I will carry on the fight."
