Councillor Peter Topping is the Conservative candidate for Heathfield, Thriplow and Whittlesford in the SCDC election on 5th May.
Peter and his family have lived in Whittlesford since 2004. He has served on its Parish Council for ten years now, two of those as chair.
He was elected District Councillor for the first time in 2008.
Peter advises government departments on major programmes, and keeps fit by cycling and rowing. His wife, Annie, works for the NHS.
Local action by Peter Topping
I get things done for residents.
- Work by the County Council has started to put in the pathway at the Middlemoor triangle in Whittlesford.
- After complaints of light pollution by residents, I got the transport depot to turn off an illuminated sign along the A505.
- When drains backed up, I had Anglian Water replace the fractured pipe to their pumping station.
- I supported Whittlesford Warriors’ successful bid for football kit from the District Council’s Community Chest last year, and the Scouts this year.
Now I want to work with Heathfield to improve play facilities in the area.
Despite pressure from developers I have worked closely with SCDC’s planning department to keep our villages separate and distinct. I want to see more affordable houses in the area to enable families to live locally.
More action by Peter Topping
- I worked with Heathfield residents to stop a solar farm along the path over to Thriplow.
- In Whittlesford I went door to door advising people how to put their views to the planning inspector about the bid to build a burial ground at Newton Road.
- In Thriplow I worked with parish councillors to protect the green walkway of trees in Farm Lane.
- Last year I took action to prevent travellers trespassing on land along the A1307 – the high court injunction protecting fields at Thriplow Heath still stands.
