Councillor Mark Howell is the Conservative candidate for Conington, Elsworth, Fen Drayton, Graveley, Knapwell, Papworth Everard and Papworth St Agnes in the SCDC election on 5th May.
Mark originates form South Wales and has lived in Papworth Everard for 18 years – which he considers to be his home.
“I work for a Disability Rehabilitation Team supporting people who’ve had life-changing events to enter back into the work environment,” he says.
“I’ve been a SCDC Councillor for 17 years, holding several prominent positions, most recently the responsibility for Housing.
“I am regarded as being very strong politically and am always fighting for my electorate.”

"The proudest aspect of being a District Councillor must be supporting people with issues which are important to them,” says Mark.
”These are not massive village wide issues but normally those which require information or a phone call to the right person.
”This can make a huge difference to people’s lives and it the most important role a District Councillor can play.
”I have supported many village groups in their application for grants, often ringing them and informing them there is money available for their activities.”
Taking a stand
"I have been a very strong voice in keeping council housing in South Cambridgeshire for local people," says Mark.
"Even though there has been much pressure from other political groups and outside SCDC, I shall continue to state the priority people we should look after are the residents of South Cambridgeshire.
"I have represented South Cambs in meetings with government ministers and expressed my view when their policies, I believe, have not been in to the benefit of local residents – recent changes in housing legislation will not support those on lower wages or young families and couples just starting off.
"Although housing development can be contentious, I believe major settlements are the best option as this does not put additional burden on our wonderful special villages.
”I will always protect our villages – and am working to reduce traffic volumes and excessive speeds.”
