South Cambridgeshire District Council – low on taxes and waste, high on service and responsibility. Let’s keep it that way.
Shared services
Shared services help us to make savings and maintain frontline support for residents.
South Cambridgeshire District Council is working closely with other local councils to share services, pool resources and make savings.
Our success has helped to reduce costs while maintaining quality frontline services to residents.
For example, our bin lorries now share a depot with those from Cambridge City – and collection routes are not held back by council boundaries.
It also means we can provide shared expertise, reaching out for the best advice to solve a problem.
Council planning teams work together – and our IT support provides computer back-up across three councils, making us more resilient.
Business support
We’re helping local businesses by providing workshops, information and advice.
The District Council offers practical information on handling regulations, helping businesses to grow and bring more prosperity to the area.
Local firms have benefited from support in core areas of marketing, finance and planning, including digital marketing and business start-up workshops.
By collaborating with another council, we have been able to provide more variety of workshops in local venues across the district, as well as webinars.
The Council’s website also pulls together advice, such as setting up a food-related business, providing the facts and the forms in one accessible on-line space – go to scambs.gov.uk/services/business.
Housing
Conservative polices have paved the way for more council houses in South Cambridgeshire.
SCDC’s plan to build new council homes for local people has taken off – four are already occupied in Linton, 20 are being built in Swavesey, construction of 15 has just started in Foxton and another 33 are in the pipeline for other parts of the district.
The Council owns and manages over 5,750 houses. In the last two years it has won three contracts to let and manage nearly 150 ex-MOD houses via its Ermine Street company, providing high quality rental homes to meet the growing demand in the area.
The Council’s housing plans aim to protect the Green Belt and ensure sustainable communities are developed while keeping pace with growth in the area.
Living well
Keeping people and communities active and healthy matters to this Conservative led council
The District Council runs an exercise referral scheme, operating in partnership with local health centres and sports centres to provide residents with a low cost, supervised course of exercise.
The Council’s annual Community Awards Scheme recognises the role people of all ages play in looking after their neighbours and their communities.
The Council has also been working with other bodies and local businesses to help ensure early intervention is at hand for people who have mental health challenges, and is finding ways to provide help for young carers.
