There were celebrations today in Swavesey to mark the completion of 20 new and much-needed Council houses - a mixture of one, two, three and four bedroomed homes, built by Parrot Construction for South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Work began on the houses in Home Close off Fen Stanton Road Road North near Moat Way, which is on the edge of the village, last summer - and have been completed ahead of schedule.
They have been made available to people who grew up and still live in the village as well as those who have a local connection to Swavesey. All the homes have been allocated and the new tenants will moving in over the next few days.
The new development follows four homes SCDC built in Linton in 2014. Work is also underway to build 15 new council homes in Foxton.
Cllr Sue Ellington, Chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council and local member for Swavesey, said: “I’m so delighted to be able mark the completion of these new homes which will be a great asset for Swavesey.
"Handing over the keys to people who grew up in the village or have close family links will be wonderful and they will help meet the needs locally for affordable rented homes.
“Congratulations to the builders for getting the homes completed ahead of schedule.”
