Harston, Hauxton and Newton Branch Jubilee Hog Roast
Harston Village Hall looked splendid, a flower display as you walked into the building and another in the main hall. The chairs had been covered with blue or white backs with a bow on them. Bunting attired the room as did flags and a picture of the Queen and Prince Philip.
The evening commenced with a reception drink and a chance to talk with some of the eighty-two people in attendance (88 tickets were sold but sadly some people were ill).
The committee had worked hard at selling tickets to their friends and neighbours and it was good to see new and familiar faces.
Rev. Dr. John Barrett the MC joked about us being harder to silence than the school children when he had been a headmaster! Grace was said prior to us all tucking into a wonderful hog roast, new potatoes, vegetables and salad.
The deserts provided by the Harston, Hauxton and Newton Branch ladies looked and tasted wonderful, followed by cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee if you wanted.
The guest speaker, The Rt. Hon. Andrew Lansley MP, Secretary of State for Health spoke on the coalition government, the health reform bill and of the problems in Europe.
Dinner was followed by entertainment by six members of the Newton Choir who sang a few songs from the shows.
Full marks and a gold star for an excellent evening!
- Organised by the Harston, Hauxton & Newton Branch.
