Some 35 people attended the 250 Club annual draw at the lovely home of Robert and Penny Cook in Green End, Comberton on Friday. Naturally, being a Conservative event, delicious canapés and other tasty niceties were laid on together wine (it was a licenced event) and soft drinks.
Unusually, there were two speakers – James Palmer, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and Jason Ablewhite, Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner, who talked about their plans and ambitions for their respective jobs.
"We were," reports Robert Cook, "lucky to be able to hold the event outdoors as it had been raining until about 40 minutes before the start and started again about 30 minutes after everyone had gone."
The highlight of the evening (other than the foregoing!) was the annual draw for prizes of £1,200, £600 and £300.
