Conservatives find a way – Lib Dems find an excuse
A personal message from the Conservative Group Leader, Cllr Nick Clarke
This year’s County Council election is one of the most important you will vote in.
We are facing some of the toughest peace time challenges ever for the public sector.
Like all councils across the country, our budget is reducing at a time when our costs are rising sharply.
But we have been getting things done rather than just talking about it. We are determined to remove unnecessary delays, further bureaucracy and ensure that common sense prevails in all our decision making.
A large increase in the demand for our services, coupled with the pressures of inflation, means we have to do a lot more with less money.
Success in the polls today is essential if we are to continue to provide high quality services for the people of Cambridgeshire.
These tough times call for strong leadership, bold thinking and the courage to act in the best interests of the people of Cambridgeshire.
Under my leadership, Conservatives have been running the council in a business like manner, focused on efficiency and getting better results for the people of Cambridgeshire.
We are the organisation of last resort to many people and are determined to protect the vulnerable.
We are also determined to invest in our future, for jobs, economic growth, apprenticeships and education for our young people.
Only the Conservatives have the experience, determination and competence to deliver on these ambitions.
For practical examples of what the Conservative run County Council is doing, read John Reynolds' April notes – and try to imagine any other Party being as sensible in its decision making.

The choice at this election – four good reasons to vote conservative
1. We believe in localism
And trusting people to manage their own affairs and make the right decisions for their village. Councillors are here to give advice and make things happen – for you.
2. We believe in changing our relationship with Europe
We now have the promised in / out referendum following the next General Election. The Lib Dems want even greater union with Europe handing over even more power to unelected officials in Europe. Please don’t let them bring in the euro!
3. We believe in making Northstowe a reality
The Lib Dems are against Northstowe – but what does this mean for us? Thousands and thousands of houses will have to be built in our current villages instead! Say no to the Lib Dems.
4. We believe in the A14 upgrade
Conservatives are committed to improving the A14 as soon as possible to save the unnecessary delays and loss of life. The business case for this is overwhelming, bringing jobs and investment to the area – but, guess what: the Lib Dems think it's a bad idea!
