In the latest round of grants, £19,000 has enabled 17 schemes to benefit from South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Community Chest fund.
The cash grants help to fund projects that might not get funding from other sources to improve the local environment, provide equipment and refurbish cherished local amenities.
The latest projects to successfully bid for funding include:
- Arrington Parish Council £1,500 towards restoration of play area.
- 1st Bar Hill Scout Group £1,500 towards improving the layout of the premises and renewing the heating system.
- Light Up Cambourne £1,000 for the installation of additional lamp post sockets and LEDs for festive lights.
- Fen Drayton Village Hall £1,500 towards the cost of improving disability access.
- Fulbourn United Reformed Church £1,500 towards improving access to the church hall.
- Great Shelford Festival of Wheels £650 towards the start-up costs of the event.
- Great Shelford Parish Council £750 towards a marquee and grandstand for Tour de France event.
- Harston Parish Council £1,000 to refurbish the village war memorial.
- Hatley Parish Council £1,426.44 for new furniture for the village hall.
- Little Shelford Parish Council £1,500 towards the cost of creating a village green.
- Meldreth Bowls Club £1,038 for repairs to the pavilion.
- Pampisford Parish Council £1,427 for a hedge and tree planting scheme.
- PhoenixAcapella Showcase Chorus £200 for the purchase of a laptop computer for their district-wide events.
- Steeple Morden Bowls Club £600 for the replacement of inefficient heaters.
- Willingham Bowls Club £1,500 for the replacement of a lawnmower.
- Willingham Parish Council £1,500 towards the creation of a natural balance trail for children.
- Willingham Youth Trust £1,500 towards the purchase of new equipment and furniture for the village’s new youth venue.
Cllr Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to support these local community groups who work so hard to deliver important services to our residents.
"We appreciate funding is becoming increasingly tough for the voluntary sector – these grants will help them get their projects underway.
