A new Cabinet member for planning has been appointed at South Cambridgeshire District Council today.
Cllr Robert Turner, who represents The Wilbrahams ward, is taking over responsibility for the Planning Portfolio with immediate effect from Cllr Pippa Corney.
Cllr Corney is stepping down from her role on the cabinet, but will continue her hard work for local residents in the Willingham and Over ward, whom she will continue to represent.
The cabinet is the main policy-making body of the council. It consists of eight councillors, who each hold responsibility for the main service areas. There are more details about the Cabinet on the SCDC website.
Cllr Ray Manning, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, thanked Cllr Corney for her contribution to Cabinet over the past two years and said: “I am pleased to welcome Cllr Robert Turner to the Cabinet; he is a longstanding member with considerable planning experience gained from 11 years serving the Planning Committee, which he has chaired since 2012.
"He possesses both the knowledge and the skills to do a great job, he understands what the role entails and the important challenges we face. I’m certain he will be an excellent Cabinet member.”
Cllr Robert Turner said: “I am very pleased to be taking on this new Cabinet position and look forward to serving the whole of the District. I have a strong planning background and feel passionately about the developments taking shape across South Cambridgeshire.”
